The MetalWorks Studio

I am displaced right now from my studio in the old J. G. Cherry building at 329 10th Avenue S.E. in Cedar Rapids.  The devastating flood of June 2008 completely filled the basement of the building where my studio was located.  In fact the water was 8 feet into the first floor.  It was amazing how high the water rose.

Currently, I am working out of my home.  Hopefully the Cherry Building will rise again.  It is my sincere hope that I will be able to have a studio there again soon.

A little History of the Cherry Building:

J.G. Cherry, an English immigrant who settled in Iowa in 1869, invented a cream can for transporting cream. The innovation not only was more sanitary than the common practice, but it prevented churning.  His company on Third Street in Cedar Rapids manufactured equipment.

Today the building has been converted into creative spaces for artists and entrepreneurs.  The creative dynamic of the building nurtures a community of artists and provides a place for us to work and develop.
