MetalWorks is my Cedar Rapids studio where these unique creatures are born.A fascination with organic shapes inspires me to create realistic and abstract representations of natural forms. I work in many media, most recently exploring metalworking. I mainly use new steel and "found" objects which I recycle and incorporate into the designs. Each sculpture is unique and displays its own character. Their playful personalities are fun and entertaining. My goal is to evoke a smile and to get you to look twice. I hope you enjoy these works as much as I enjoy creating them. Let me know what you think! My work is individually crafted using new and reclaimed materials. They are suitable for outdoors, or in the home. The colorful sculptures are primed and painted for a lasting protection. Other sculptures have developed a natural patina and are then finished with a protective seal to protect them, but if left outdoors they will weather beautifully over the years, developing their own distinctive character. The flood of June 2008 destroyed my studio and several others in the old J.G. Cherry Building at 329 10th Avenue SE in downtown Cedar Rapids. This building is a renovated dairy equipment factory that houses many small businesses and artists' studios. The building has a great community spirit and I know it will come back from this tragedy. Click on the MetalWorks Studio link to check it out. Good news! On October 1,2010 I finally got into my new studio in the Cherry Building. It has been a long time coming and a lot of work, but I'm happy to be in and creating! Come see me at the Cherry Building Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5 from 1-6pm.
"My Dream" 2007 "My River" 2008 "My Space" 2009 "My Garden" 2010 2x2xU is Cedar Rapids signature community-based art project, sponsored by the New Bohemia Group. The goal is to provide an opportunity for artists and the entire community to enjoy art for arts sake; no commercial sponsors, no juries, just the joy of creativity and talent. |
